Four-time Laser World Championship medalist Nick Thompson has hailed the Optimist European Championships as “the event that started it all for me” as Great Britain prepares to welcome the regatta for the first time ever this summer.Nick Opis

British Sailing Team star Thompson, the first Brit to ever win the Optimist Europeans title in Athens in 1999, was speaking as the Optimist Europeans prepare to make their debut on British waters at Pwllheli Sailing Club, North Wales from 17-24 July 2015. It will be the first event hosted by the new Plas Heli Welsh Sailing Academy.

LOCAL BUSINESSES URGED TO HELP SAILING LEAVE CULTURAL ‘LEGACY’

The co-founder of Pwllheli-based Jones O Gymru Crisps is urging the North Wales business community to help leave a “legacy” after becoming the first local company to sign as an official partner to the 2015 Optimist European Championships in Pwllheli this summer.
Around 250 of the World’s top young sailors from over 45 countries will take to the waters for the first event at the new Plas Heli Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre from 17-24 July.
