In an awards ceremony last week at Plas Menai, RYA Cymru Wales presented Stephen Tudor with a Special Contribution Award for his work at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club and the huge personal contribution he has made in the development of the new Welsh National Sailing Academy and Events Centre at Pwllheli.
Stephen has been a member at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club since the age of 8, has been on various committees since an early age , has been Honorary Secretary for many years and was Commdore between 2012 and 2014.
Over the last five years Stephen has been the driving force for the development of a new sailing academy in Pwllheli. The new facilities that are now in the final stages of construction has gained £8.9m of financial support from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government and Gwynedd Council. The iconic shore side facilities will rival the best in the world and put Wales firmly on the international stage as a destination of choice for World and European sailing events. Stephen is the volunteer Chairman of the new operating company, Plas Heli Cyf. And he does all this whilst running his successful family estate agency business.
Jane Butterworth the Pwllheli Youth Section Chairman says: “He has worked tirelessly for the club, without his commitment the Welsh National Sailing Academy would never have eventuated and his hard work deserves to be recognised”.
Stephen Tudor says: “I accept this award as an endorsment of the work undertaken by a team of people, not just myself, on the development and the establishment of the Academy.”
Steven Morgan, Chief Executive Officer at RYA Cymru Wales says: “Stephen Tudor is a very worthy recipient of our Special Contribution Award, for his drive and passion at Pwllheli Sailing Club and for helping, with the development of the Academy to make Wales one of the best places in the world to be a sailor.”
